Val's Hosiery

Valerie Davison

Val’s Hosiery is owned and operated by Fillmore native Valerie Davison, whose mission is to introduce pantyhose, stockings, and other fashionable undergarments to communities of color that make them feel confident, powerful, and comfortable in their skin. She wants to share the experience of feeling connected to and empowered by the hosiery you choose to wear, because access to these flattering and comfortable garments was not always easy to come by.

Growing up, shopping for hosiery was a community experience. She would frequently shop with a group of girlfriends and sisters, and has especially fond memories of shopping for special events, a night out, or a new job. However, growing up in the Fillmore and Western Addition neighborhoods of San Francisco, they found that they had to go outside of their local community to find a range of hosiery shades that matched the diverse shades they had amongst their group. There were no true tone matches, and most stores had 4 shades or fewer available. Seeing how colors matched the skin of lighter toned people made Davison realize there was a niche in the market not being addressed, and from there sparked the passion for providing a wide variety of hosiery for her community and other communities of color. Since 2002, Davison has been a frequent vendor at events across the Bay Area, building lasting customer relationships with those who know her brand for having the most inclusive collection available.
